Description
The Casa della Beata Osanna Andreasi is a 15th-century patrician home on Via Frattini, in the center of Mantua: the house where Osanna Andreasi lived, a Dominican mystic and adviser to the Gonzaga, kept almost intact as a place of her memory.
Inside you walk through frescoed, furnished rooms with their original ceilings: a picture of how a noble Mantuan family lived in the 15th century. The garden has been brought back to the form of a hortus conclusus, the walled garden of medieval convents and houses. The brick façade, with its round-arched doorway, was redesigned by Luca Fancelli.
The Andreasi, wealthy landowners from Carbonara di Po, bought the house in 1475, when they settled in the city. Osanna (1449-1505) is today one of the patron saints of Mantua; in 1780 the house passed to the Counts Magnaguti as a wedding dowry.
