Description
Galleria Museo Valenti Gonzaga is on the first floor of Palazzo Valenti Gonzaga. The museum is 500 square meter large; you will admire the entry arcade, the room of the prodigal son, the chapel, the room of the triumph of time over fame, and the room of coats of arms.
Frescoes by Flemish painter Frans Geffels (1625-1694) and 18 statues by sculptor and plasterer Giovan Battista Barberini (1625-1691) deck all of the rooms.
The façade was designed by architect Nicolò Sebregondi (1595-1652), who also made Villa Favorita on the orders of duke Ferdinando Gonzaga (1587-1626).
Galleria Museo Valenti Gonzaga contains also a small hanging garden and some XV century service rooms, such as a cold storage room, a flour storage room and a refectory.
