Description

The Palazzo d'Arco Museum is the home of the Counts d'Arco, nobles of Trentino origin, left as it was in 1973, when the last heir, Giovanna d'Arco, bequeathed it to the city to become a museum. It is a Neoclassical palace inspired by Palladio, in the center of Mantua.

Inside you walk among the family's furniture, chandeliers, ceramics, musical instruments and weapons, a large library and a period kitchen. On the walls hang paintings attributed to artists such as Lotto, Tintoretto and Van Dyck, and a cycle of nine canvases by Giuseppe Bazzani.

The most precious piece lies beyond the courtyard, in one of the 15th-century buildings that close off the garden: the Hall of the Zodiac, frescoed by Giovanni Maria Falconetto in the early decades of the 16th century with the signs of the zodiac.

The garden is closed by a large exedra, a curved wall. The old stables house the Teatrino d'Arco, home since 1946 of the Accademia Teatrale Francesco Campogalliani.
